ONLINE TUTORS STANDARD DBS CHECK

Speech Etiquette is an online platform that allows tutors to teach English as a foreign language classes online. While teachers are required by law to get an Enhanced DBS check, there is no requirement for tutors to undergo a DBS check in the UK. At Speech Etiquette, safeguarding our learners’ well-being is our utmost priority and we are taking the liberty to request all tutors to provide us with a standard DBS check before they can work with us. This is to ensure that suitable people are working in positions of trust, as a result this should provide the peace of mind for our students and their family members.

While learning online has its advantages but please remember to safeguard yourself by not sharing important personal information. Once you have registered with Speech Etiquette, your information will be stored safely and we will not share it with the tutors. We will always ask for your consent first before passing on any information, such as your email address.

Proper safeguarding goes far wider than DBS checks. You are also responsible for your own safety, remember to never give out your personal details such as home address, telephone number and bank details to tutors or other learners.

What is A DBS CHECK?

DBS checks are carried out by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) which is a UK government body that helps employers make safer recruitment decisions each year by processing and issuing DBS checks for England, Wales, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.

DBS checks are a standard requirement for recruitment and vetting processes in a wide array of UK industries to ensure candidates or volunteers are a suitable match. For those who work with children or vulnerable groups, DBS checks are a statutory requirement for safeguarding.

A DBS check will show any previous criminal convictions and cautions according to the level of search requested. You must be 16 years or over to undergo a DBS check. DBS certificates can be requested by employers or organisations to complete their vetting procedures.

Standard check

A standard DBS check will show if you have any unspent or spent convictions, cautions, reprimands or warnings. The DBS will search the Police National Computer and the information will not be filtered.
